St. Mary's Women's Cross Country Continues Strong Season at Hood Open

Frederick, Md. – Three Top 10 finishes powered the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team to a second-place finish in the 11-team field at the Hood College Open Saturday morning.

The Basics:

  • Place – 2nd of 11
  • Location – Frederick, Md. – Utica Park

St. Mary's Top 5 Finishers:

  • First-year Lindsey Stevenson (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) continued to lead the Seahawks by coming in fourth overall place with a time of 24:44.4.
  • First-year Kara Taylor (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) finished again right behind Stevenson with a time of 25:04.5. That time would be good enough to put her in the seventh spot.
  • Junior captain Marisa McCormick (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) was the third runner for St. Mary's to finish Saturday with a time of 25:24.2 for ninth overall.
  • Senior captain Halcyon Ruskin (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) added to her strong senior campaign by running a 27:02.8 for 22nd out of 94 total finishers.
  • First-year Melody Raynaud (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) scored for the Seahawks for the first time in her career as Raynaud ran a 28:16.1 for 40th overall.

Other Top Performers:

  • The Catholic University of America captured both the team title and the individual title behind Kiera Lyons' first-place finish in 23:50.3.
  • Franklin & Marshall finished third as Emma Frazier's 12th-place finish led the way.

Up Next for the Seahawks:

  • St. Mary's will rest up and train for the next two weeks in preparation for the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championships, which will be hosted by Christopher Newport University. The race will be held Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m.
