York, Pa. – First-year Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York College of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon as DiMenna finished 14th overall among 91 runners.
DiMenna covered the 6K course in 25:44.56 to earn 13 points for the Seahawks. Sophomore Keighly Bradbrook (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) was next, crossing the finish line in 26:25.74 to place 23rd overall (21st team finish).
Junior Katie Phipps (Severna Park, Md./Chesapeake) was the team's third top runner as Phipps clocked a 26:41.31 for a 25th-place overall finish (23rd team finish). Rounding out the top-five for the Seahawks were first-year Sylviann Houck (Harwood, Md./Southern) and sophomore Julia Gardner (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson).
Houck came in three seconds after Phipps with a time of 26:44.05 for a 26th-place finish (24th team finish) while Gardner was 35th (31st team finish) in 27:15.84.
The Seahawks have earned a well-deserve break and are off until Friday, September 30 when St. Mary's travels to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The race will begin at 1:45 pm.
