Westminster, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team finished fifth in the six-team field at the McDaniel College Green Terror XC Challenge. The Seahawks notched four top 15 finishes in the long course event of the meet to take second in those team standings.
The Green Terror XC Challenge features a 5K course as well as a 3K race and only teams that competed as a full team in both events are eligible for an overall team score. Another difference was in the fact that the top four finishers for each team scores, instead of the usual five.
Junior captain Katie Phipps (Severna Park, Md./Chesapeake) paced the squad with her seventh-place finish, completing the 5K course in 22:12.10. First-year Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was next in 10th place followed by sophomore Keighly Bradbrook (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) in 13th and sophomore Sylviann Houck (Harwood, Md./Southern) in 14th.
Houck was the team's top finisher in the 3K course, crossing the finish line in 13:35.20. St. Mary's took eighth in the short-course team standings.
The Seahawks will return to action Saturday, September 17 at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York College of Pennsylvania. The race will begin at 5:00 pm.
