St. Mary's City, Md. – Eight home matches highlight the 2017 St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball schedule, which was just released by second-year head coach Kelly Martin. The Seahawks' home-opener will be on September 26 in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.
The 27-match slate features seven programs which competed in the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. In addition, two schools, University of Mary Washington (No. 14) and Christopher Newport University (No. 24), both finished the season ranked in the final AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 while Stevenson University received votes in the final rankings.
St. Mary's will be battle-tested when they take on 2016 NCAA Tournament participant, Randolph-Macon College in their home-opener (Sept. 26) as the Seahawks' first 12 matches of the season will be on the road.
The team begins the new campaign at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College followed by a quad-match at McDaniel College (Sept. 8-9) and tri-matches at Lancaster Bible College (Sept. 16) and Stevenson University (Sept. 23). Before the tri-matches, St. Mary's will face another NCAA Tournament as they travel to Baltimore to face Johns Hopkins University.
Following their one and only home match of September, the Seahawks kick off Capital Athletic Conference action at Christopher Newport (Sept. 29) and at Mary Washington (Sept. 30), the defending CAC champions who advanced the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. St. Mary's will travel twice to CNU, taking on the Captains on October 18 as well.
October starts off with a pair of conference matches at York College of Pennsylvania (Oct. 6) and at Penn State Harrisburg (Oct. 7) before returning home to square off against Eastern Mennonite University (Oct. 8). After a match at Marymount (Va.) University (Oct. 11), the Seahawks have a two-match home-stand, hosting Wesley College (Oct. 13) and raising breast cancer awareness when Salisbury University (Oct. 14) comes to campus.
Goucher College will visit the O'Brien ARC Arena on October 21 before St. Mary's heads to Bridgewater (Va.) College on the 25th. The Seahawks close out the regular season with a three-match home-stand, taking on Virginia Wesleyan College (Oct. 26), Southern Virginia University (Oct. 27), and Frostburg State University (Oct. 28) in back-to-back-to-back matches.
The CAC Volleyball Championship Tournament begins on October 31 with first round action while the semifinals and championship match happen on November 2 and 4, respectively.
