Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team had their conference win streak halted at two matches with a 3-1 loss at Frostburg State University in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday morning.
Junior right-side hitter Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) and senior middle blocker Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) paced the Seahawks (6-16, 2-4 CAC) in the loss with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
St. Mary's came out firing and captured the first set, 25-21, before Frostburg State (15-16, 5-2 CAC) reeled off three straight set wins (26-24, 25-18, 25-22) for the match on the Bobcats' Senior Day.
Junior outside hitter Jenn Rindone put forth a strong defensive effort with a career-best 26 digs while adding seven kills and one block. Fellow classmate and outside hitter Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) also had a career night with 25 digs of her own and five service aces while adding seven kills.
Sophomore libero Bianca Livioco (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) was in double-digits as well with 18 digs. Hlavinka tallied two block solos to help out defensively.
Sophomore setter Rachel Wilson (Damascus, Md./Damascus) contributed to the offense with 20 assists while junior Dani Thorne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) dished out 15.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, October 26 as St. Mary's welcomes Marymount (Va.) University to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for conference play on Dig Pink Night. Action begins at 7:00 pm.
