Allentown, Pa. – Junior right-side hitter Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) was named to the All-Buttermaker Tournament Team as the St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team split their matches on the final day of the tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College. The Seahawks swept the host team before falling in three to Neumann University.
Mullennix, senior middle blocker Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton), and junior outside hitters Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) and Jenn Rindone (Crofton, Md./Spalding) finished with eight kills apiece in leading St. Mary's (2-6) to a 3-0 sweep of Muhlenberg (1-7). Sophomore setter Rachel Wilson (Damascus, Md./Damascus) helped the attack with 20 assists.
The Seahawks claimed the Muhlenberg match by scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-13 as Blanc and sophomore middle blocker Michelle Klima (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) each served up three aces. Defensively, junior defensive specialist Dani Thorne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) tallied nine digs while Klima added 2.0 total blocks.
Wilson recorded her second double-double on assists and digs in the loss to Neumann (5-2) as she had 15 assists and a career-best 13 digs. Blanc also had 13 digs while tallying a team-best eight kills. Hlavinka contributed five kills and 2.5 total blocks.
The Seahawks will return to action on Wednesday, September 14 as St. Mary's opens up Capital Athletic Conference play at Salisbury University. The first serve is at 7:00 pm.
