    The 2011 season for the St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team came to a close Tuesday night as the fifth-seeded Seahawks suffered a 3-1 setback to fourth-seeded University of Mary Washington in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament. The set scores were 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 14-25.

The Seahawks posted a 3-0 shutout win over Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action before dropping a 3-0 decision to Lynchburg College.

    York, Pa. – Junior outside hitter Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) earned her first career Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award for the week ending October 2 as announced Monday afternoon by league commissioner, Tom Byrnes. Blanc is the first Seahawk to pick up the weekly honor since October 26, 2009 when Katie Obal ’11 was the last to receive it.

The Seahawks finished tied for third with Elizabethtown as both teams notched a 1-2 tournament record.

The Seahawks (1-3) struggled offensively in the first two sets, managing only 12 total kills as JHU (5-0) claimed the first set, 25-11, and the second, 25-19.
