Seahawk Women's Tennis Edged by Millikin

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team (5-2) saw their four-match win streak snapped Thursday afternoon. The Seahawks dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 non-conference decision to Millikin University for their first loss of the spring. The loss wrapped up St. Mary's action at the PTR Spring TennisFest.

How It Happened


  • Senior captain Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and first-year Sophia Gary (Germantown, Md./Holton-Arms School) finished their Spring Break trip with a 3-0 record following their 8-3 takedown of Molly Angell and Missy Donovan at No. 1 doubles.


  • Barall shutout Morgan Bettner, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to finish Spring Break undefeated in both singles and doubles action.
  • Gary had an exciting finish to her time in South Carolina as she beat Angell 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 2 singles.
  • Senior Savannah Bergen (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) finished the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Katie Cooper at No. 6 singles.
