Seahawks Fall to Undefeated Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. - St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team (1-2) fell to Eastern Mennonite University (3-0) this evening (Sept. 4). This was the Seahawks' second game on the road.

How It Happened

  • The first half of the game was very evenly matched with SMCM totaling three shots and EMU totaling four. Both teams were tied for corner kicks at two in the first half as well. The half ended with a tie of 0-0.

  • In the second half, the Seahawks stepped up to be more of an offensive threat with six total shots compared to the Blue Lions' four shots. Sophomore defender, Lauren Baker and junior forward, Erin Moran were the team's lead shooters this evening with two shots apiece. Other attacking threats to goal were Ines Garofolo, Lauren Giron, Alecia Rotunno, Maddie Schwarz, and Kaitlyn Steigner.

  • In the 71st minute, Eastern Mennonite was able to find the back of the net to record the only point from this evening's matchup. First-year goalkeeper, Audra Haines recorded two saves tonight, giving her a 0.688 save percentage on the season thus far.

Inside the Box Score

  • Haines continues to impress in her first collegiate season with a total of 11 saves so far in the 2019 season.

  • First-year, Steigner remains a huge scoring threat for the Seahawks with five total shots this season, and 0.800 shots on goal percentage.
