Moody Strikes Twice as Seahawk Women's Soccer Locks Up CAC Playoff Bid

St. Mary's City, Md. – First-year forward Alex Moody (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) registered her second consecutive multiple-goal game Wednesday afternoon in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team to a key Capital Athletic Conference win in the regular-season finale.

The Seahawks picked up a 2-0 shutout over York College of Pennsylvania and secured the fourth seed in the upcoming 2017 CAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. St. Mary's will host the University of Mary Washington, the No. 5 seed, on Saturday, October 28 in first-round action. Stay tuned to for the game time.

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's just needed a pair of first-half goals off of Moody's feet to collect its fourth shutout of the season.
  • Moody put the Seahawks on the scoreboard in the 16th minute as she received a pass from junior Emily Huey (Pocomoke City, Md./Snow Hill) and fired into the lower left corner.
  • Just shy of four minutes later, Moody struck again ripping another shot into the same corner after getting a through pass from first-year defender Ines Garofolo (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) and then dribbling past two defenders.
  • York outshot the Seahawks, 19-8, and gained a 5-2 edge in corner kicks but senior captain Sydney Larkin (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) turned away eight shots in preserving the clean sheet.         

For the Seahawks (5-8-4, 4-3-2 CAC)

  • Scorers: Moody (2 goals); Huey (1 assist); Garofolo (1 assist)
  • Goalkeeper: Larkin (8 saves, 0 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • St. Mary's put up eight shots (six on goal) and two corner kicks.

For York (4-10-2, 3-5-1 CAC)

  • Scorer: None
  • Goalkeeper: Jess Wieber (4 saves, 2 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • The Spartans tallied 19 shots (eight on goal) and five corners.


  • The Seahawks improved to 16-9-3 all-time against York and snapped a two-game skid against YCP.
