York, Pa. – First-year goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) became the second Seahawk women's soccer player in as many weeks to earn Capital Athletic Conference player of the week accolades as Wirtz was selected as the CAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The honor was announced Monday afternoon by CAC commissioner Tom Byrnes.
Wirtz recorded five saves in St. Mary's (4-5-1, 4-1 CAC) lone outing of the week, Saturday's league shutout victory over York (Pa.) College. The win lifted the Seahawks into a three-way tie with Frostburg State University and Stevenson University for first place in the conference standings. The shutout was the second of the season for Wirtz.
She is currently sixth in the conference in saves (39), seventh in goals against average (1.89) and eighth in save percentage (.722).
The Seahawks hope to continue their winning ways this Saturday when they travel to western Maryland to face Frostburg State in a conference tilt at 12:00 pm.
