GRAND LAKE, Colo. - St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse gained a spot on the 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Squad as the IWLCA released its list of honorees Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, Kate Bartholomew was selected to the IWLCA Division III Honor Roll list.
St. Mary's College was named an Academic Honor Squad for the eighth straight season. The Seahawks were one of 312 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA named as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2018-19 academic year. In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the year.
"Commitment is one of our core values as a program and we believe that to be true in academics, athletics, and in our character," stated head women's lacrosse coach, Erin McDonnell. "I am extremely proud of these young women for their commitment to their academic success."
Bartholomew, a native of Galena, Maryland, picked up her first IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll award. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. The junior mathematics major finished the 2019 season with 74 points and 55 goals. In addition, Bartholomew was named the St. Mary's College Student-Athlete of the Month in March and was selected as the CAC Player of the Week on Mar. 25.
"Kate has always shown a strong commitment to excellence in the classroom, just as she does on the field," McDonnell explained. "She is a great example of what a true leader is. We are all very proud of her and this great accomplishment, way to go Kate!"
