Crystal Gibson was selected as the program's 13th mentor on May 17, 2011 and is entering her fifth season at the helm of the Seahawk women's basketball team in 2015-16. Gibson has mentored an All-Capital Athletic Conference selection in each of her seasons at St. Mary's and last season, she coached the 2015 CAC Rookie of the Year in Kerri Kline '18.
The Owings Mills, Md. native also serves as the athletic department's senior woman administrator, a position Gibson attained in August of 2012. She is currently the chair of the Capital Athletic Conference women's basketball committee and her two-year tenure will end at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.
Gibson also holds professional memberships in the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
She joined the St. Mary's family after three years as the head women's basketball coach at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. While at Arcadia, Gibson also served as the assistant sports information director. She helped to grow the program during their first three seasons competing in the Middle Atlantic Conferences' highly competitive Commonwealth Conference.
During the 2010-11 season, the Knights achieved their first league win and finished with the most number of victories (7) since the program’s one-year stint as members of the MAC’s Freedom Conference during the 2007-08 season.
Gibson has also held assistant coaching positions at NCAA Division III institutions, Frostburg State University and her alma mater, Lebanon Valley College.
From 2006-2008, she served as the primary assistant at Frostburg State, where she was responsible for opponent scouting and player development, including teaching techniques and fundamentals as well as recruiting. Gibson served as an assistant at Lebanon Valley for both the women's basketball and women's track & field teams during the 2005-06 seasons.
Gibson was one of five Lebanon Valley alumni to make up the LVC Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2015. The induction ceremony took place Friday, October 9 during the Flying Dutchmen's Homecoming Weekend.
A two-sport athlete at Lebanon Valley, she was a four-year starter at point guard for the Flying Dutchmen. Gibson earned second team All-Commonwealth Conference and team MVP recognition as a junior (2003-04), leaving LVC as the program's all-time assists leader with 528 (now ranks second).
She was also a four-year letterwinner on the outdoor track & field team, picking up All-America honors in the high jump in 2002 with her fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Other accolades for Gibson include LVC Outstanding Women's Athlete Award (2004-05) as well as holding the school record in the high jump at 1.72m.
She received her undergraduate degree in biology in 2005 and then acquired a master's in business administration from Frostburg State.
