St. Mary's Women's Basketball Season Comes to a Close

Arlington, Va. – The 2011-12 season of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team came to an end Tuesday night in the first round of the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament as the fifth-seeded Seahawks succumbed to a 72-47 loss at No. 4 seed Marymount (Va.) University.

The Seahawks end their first season under head coach Crystal Gibson with a 10-16 (8-8 CAC) record.

St. Mary's struggled to find their offensive rhythm the entire contest.  The visitors shot under 25% from the field for the game, including 17.2% in the first half.

Sophomores Bridget Wilkins (Washington, D.C./Washington Waldorf) and Marché Pearson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) paced the team offensively with seven points each while sophomores Shana Lewis (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) hauled in four rebounds apiece.

Marymount (14-12) never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as 36 as the Saints shot 55.3% from the floor.  Marymount's best shooting effort came in the second half as the hosts made 60.9% of their shots in the final 20 minutes.

The Saints now advance to their 20th semifinal appearance and will face undefeated and top-seeded No. 7 University of Mary Washington on Thursday, February 23.

Junior guard Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) led all players with a double-double of 23 points and 11 assists while senior forward Jackie Bohenek (Bridgewater, Mass./Rockland) added 17 points and six boards.
