St. Mary's Men's Tennis Starts Spring Break with 8-1 Win over Marietta

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team (3-2) began action at the PTR Spring TennisFest down in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with a convincing 8-1 non-conference win over Marietta College on Tuesday evening.

How It Happened


  • Sophomores Jon Gorel (Jessup, Md./Hammond) and Ethan Garren (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) started their spring break off with an 8-2 win over Marietta's Jack Hirschfield and Shane Spencer at No. 1 doubles.
  • Senior captain James Loftis (Annapolis, Md./Saint Andrews (Del.)) and sophomore Ron Stith (Cheltenham, Md./Lackey) won their No. 2 doubles match by defeating Bryce Emerick and Will Watson, 8-1.
  • Junior Jacob Bartholow (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and first-year Cooper Clark (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) helped the Seahawks sweep doubles action as they posted a hard-fought 9-8 (7-5) victory over Brandon DeCicco and Alex Hogan.


  • Gorel, Stith, senior captains Connor MicKissick (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel), and Bartholow all come away with straight-set singles wins.
