St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team was triumphant Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 non-conference victory over McDaniel College.
St. Mary's (2-3) opened up the day winning all three double matches, taking the 3-0 lead and only dropping six points in three matches.
Senior Nick Ersoy (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) and sophomore Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel) had the most dominating of performances, winning their match at No. 3 doubles by an 8-1 decision against first-years Carter Trousdale (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estate) and Tate Myers (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs).
As the afternoon continued so did the persistence of the Seahawks to go perfect on the day. In the singles matches, St. Mary's won 6 straight with senior captain Robert Bishop (Hollywood, Md./Great Mills) winning a comeback match, 0-6, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles over junior Corey Glocker (Silver Spring, Md./Blake).
Junior Byron Dickerson (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) also needed to rally for his straight set victory at No. 3 singles. Dickerson found himself down 4-3 in the first set before coming from behind for the 7-5 triumph. He then rolled in the second set, 6-1.
St. Mary's will look to pick up its second straight win when the Seahawks host SUNY Delhi at Somerset Tennis Complex tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
