St. Mary’s College Swimming Selected Fourth in CAC Preseason Poll

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's and women's swimming teams were selected to finish fourth in the 2019-20 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Preseason Poll, the league announced today (Oct. 18). The men's team received seven points in the poll, while the women's team garnered eight.

On the men's side, Mary Washington was the unanimous selection atop the poll with four first-place votes and 16 points, followed by York in second with one first-place nod and 13 points. Salisbury ranked third in the poll with 10 points, followed by St. Mary's College (7 points) and Southern Virginia (4 points) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. 

The St. Mary's College men's swimming team will be led by senior Peter Orban. The Montgomery Village, Maryland native collected a fourth place finish in the 200 yard backstroke at last year's CAC Championships. Additionally, Orban broke the school record in the 100 yard backstroke for a third place finish at the conference championships. The Seahawks welcome three first year swimmers and one transfer to the 2019-20 roster.

On the women's side, Mary Washington nabbed four first-place nods and totaled 16 points to secure top billing in the poll. York claimed the other first-place vote and finished second in the poll with 13 points. Salisbury was picked to finish third with nine points, narrowly edging fourth-place St. Mary's College (8 points). Southern Virginia rounded out the poll in fifth with four points.

The Seahawk women's swimming team will be led by returners Brenna Litynski and Carolyn Sutton. Litynski, a native of Hollywood, Maryland, captured a first place finish in the 50 free in the CAC Championships last season. Litynski also earned runner-up finishes in the 200 medley relay and 100 free at the conference championships. Sutton, a native of Laurel, Maryland had a successful end to her 2018-19 season with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay, third place finish in the 400 free relay, fourth place finish in the 50 freestyle, and a fifth place finish in the 100 butterfly at the CAC Championships. The Seahawks welcome three first year swimmers to their 2019-20 squad.

The Seahawks begin their season on Oct. 26 when they travel to Marymount for a non-conference meet before hosting their home opener on Nov. 1 against Randolph-Macon. Next, St. Mary's College will begin CAC action on Nov. 2 at York and conclude conference competition with a home meet against Salisbury on Jan. 25. The CAC Championships will once again be held at St. Mary's College and will take place from Feb. 12-15.
