Scott Highlights St. Mary's Men's Swimming Second Day at CAC Championships

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team continued the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Swimming Championships Friday with the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley (IM), 50 freestyle, and 400 medley relay. 

How It Happened

  • First-year Andrew Scott (California, Md./Leonardtown) broke his own school record in the 500 freestyle, taking third in the event with a time of 4:39.75. He previously broke the record on December 1, 2017 by swimming a 4:41.25 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College.
  • First-year Nate Donoghue (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), junior Reed Rhoads (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), first-year Ben Cornwell (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South-Dorchester), and junior Colin Cassady (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall) took fourth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.17.
  • Sophomore Peter Orban (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill), senior captain Kieran Broder (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep), Donoghue and Cassady came in fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:35.53.
  • Cassady claimed a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle as he swam a 21.43.
  • Sophomore Ryan Akhavan (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) finished third in the consolation final of the 200 individual medley for 11th overall with a time of 2:02.37.
  • The Seahawks currently stand third in the six-team field with 141.5 points for a 17.5-point lead over Salisbury University. The three-day championship event will wrap up on Sunday, February 25 with the crowning of the team champion. The University of Mary Washington holds the No. 1 spot in the team standings with 290 points and is chasing its 24th overall, and 18th consecutive CAC championship title, while York College of Pennsylvania is in second with 232.5 points.
