St. Mary's City, Md – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team won a Sunday afternoon contest against the visiting Swarthmore College Garnet, 3-0, as three different Seahawk players found the back of the net.

St. Mary's 3, Swarthmore 0

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's came out of the gates fast when junior captain Juwan Kearson (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) notched his second goal of the season on a cross from senior captain Sunny Chhatani (Lima, Peru/Indian Creek [Md.]).
  • The Seahawks put two more in before halftime as both sophomore midfielder Brad Moore (Crofton, Md./South River) and first-year forward Tyler Kurack (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) put away their first goals of the season.
  • St. Mary's shutdown Swarthmore all throughout the day and was aided by some key saves from senior captain Zach Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg).

For the Seahawks (4-4-0)

  • Scorers: Kurack (1 goal, 1 assist); Kearson (1 goal); Moore (1 goal); Chhatani (1 assist); Tanenbaum (1 assist)
  • Goalkeeper: Haussler (4 saves, 0 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • St. Mary's finished the game with 17 shots (seven on goal) and also managed two corner kicks.

For Swarthmore (2-4-1)

  • Scorers: None
  • Goalkeeper: Oliver Steinglass (4 saves, 3 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • The Garnet had eight shots and earned one corner on the day.

  • Today's contest pitted current Swarthmore leader and former St. Mary's men's soccer coach, Eric Wagner (1997-2001), against his former player and current Seahawk coach, Alun Oliver '04. Coach Oliver just passed Wagner on the all-time coaching victories list for second all-time.
  • This is just the fourth time the Seahawks have picked up a victory against Swarthmore in 13 meetings.
  • In addition, Haussler earned his 15th career shutout to move into a tie for second all-time. He's now two shy of becoming the school's all-time leader.

Up next for the Seahawks

  • Sept. 23 vs. Penn State Harrisburg – Seahawk Stadium – Capital Athletic Conference opener – 3:15 p.m.
  • Since the series began in 2013, the Seahawks are 4-1 against Penn State Harrisburg.
