York, Pa. – Senior captain Nicholas LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team to their first win streak of the season and was rewarded for his efforts with a selection as the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 14th.
LaGuerre was chosen as this week's award winner after helping the Seahawks (4-3, 2-1 CAC) to a 2-0 week with averages of 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.5 three-pointers per contest.
The 6-3 guard started the week with 18 points and season-best eight rebounds in leading St. Mary's to a 79-54 non-conference road win over Bryn Athyn College on December 9th. LaGuerre shot 7-of-14 from the field for the game while adding four assists, two steals, and one block.
He followed that with his fourth 20-point game of the season as LaGuerre tallied a game-best 28 points after connecting on a career-high six three-pointers in a 65-53 conference win over defending CAC champion, University of Mary Washington, this past Saturday. He was also nearly perfect from the free throw line with a 6-for-7 effort while grabbing three boards and doling out a pair of helpers.
LaGuerre currently leads the league in scoring with 21.3 points per game while ranking third in assists per game with a 3.6 average. He also ranks eighth in free throw percentage (.750) and steals per game with a 1.4 average.
St. Mary's will be back on the hardwood this Saturday, December 20th as the Seahawks travel to Chester, Pennsylvania to face Widener University in a non-conference matchup at 3:00 p.m.
