Kansas City, Mo. – St. Mary's College of Maryland Head Coach Chris Harney '97 (Point Pleasant, N.J.) was tabbed as the 2013 National Association of Basketball Coaches Middle Atlantic District Coach of the Year while Nick LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) picked up second team NABC All-Middle Atlantic District honors as announced by the organization Monday.

This is the second time in his eight-year career that Harney garners the NABC honor. He first earned the regional award in 2010 after guiding the Seahawks to a 26-4 record, an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, and both the Capital Athletic Conference championship tournament and regular-season titles. Almost a month ago, Harney notched his third CAC Coach of the Year honor, having earned the award previously in 2010 and 2011 and becoming the first Seahawk leader to earn the award more than once.

In eight seasons, he has mentored the Seahawks to five NCAA Tournament appearances as well as five conference regular-season titles and four CAC championship tournament crowns. The school's all-time wins leader, Harney currently owns a career record of 163-65 (87-35 CAC) and has coached seven players to 14 all-conference selections.

LaGuerre continues to add to his postseason awards list with today's all-region accolade as this honor comes in three days after his selection to the D3hoops.com All-Middle Atlantic Region Third Team. The 6-2 sophomore guard registered his first-ever postseason honor nearly a month ago with his selection to the All-CAC first team. He lifted St. Mary's to its fifth CAC crown with his game-winning layup with 5.5 seconds left in overtime.

LaGuerre paces the Seahawks in every offensive category, ranking in the top-five in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (42.7%), assists per game (3.8 apg), steals per game (1.9 spg), and scoring (13.4 ppg).

St. Mary's (27-3) clinched the conference's automatic bid for its fifth appearance NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament appearance following its 79-78 overtime win over Wesley College on February 23. The Seahawks are now experiencing the program's second trip to the Elite Eight with wins over No. 24 MIT, 85-76; Alvernia University, 72-66; and Morrisville State College, 84-66, in the NCAA tournament so far. St. Mary's next opponent will be the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, March 22 at 2:30 pm at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.
