St. Mary's Men's Basketball Flies Past Marymount (Va.)

St. Mary's City, Md. – Five players in double digits led the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team to a dominant 81-63 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Marymount (Va.) University Wednesday night to extend the Seahawks' home regular-season win streak to 36-0.

Junior guard Chris Hutchinson (Owings Mills, Md./New Town) paced the Seahawks with career-bests of 18 points (7-of-10 shooting from the field) and five steals while sophomore forward Christian MacAuley (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) contributed 14 points and two blocks.

St. Mary's (10-3, 4-0 CAC) jumped out to a quick 16-4 lead in the game's first six-and-half minutes, including a 12-0 run to break the second of only two tied instances the entire game – a 4-4 draw at 16:12.  The Seahawks owned a double-digit for the majority of the first half as the home cruised to a 36-26 halftime advantage.

MacAuley and Marymount's first-year guard Timothy Brisco (Queens, N.Y./Woodberry Forest School) each tallied nine first-half points while sophomore guard Kyle Wise (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) hauled in six rebounds to lead all players at intermission.

Hutchinson picked up 11 of his game-high 18 points in the second stanza as the Seahawks collectively shot a season second-best 60-percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, building a 22-point lead on a three-point shot by first-year guard Jerome Tolson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist School) with 45 seconds remaining.

First-year guard Nick LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) chipped in 13 points and two assists off the bench while guards Devin Spencer (Baltimore, Md./Towson Catholic) and Brendan McFall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) each notched 10 points for the Seahawks.

Wise finished the night with a career-and game-high eight boards while McFall also had a career-night with seven caroms, helping St. Mary's post a 36-26 rebounding margin.

Sophomore forward Reed Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led a trio of Saints in double-digit scoring with 17 points while local high school product, senior forward John Magnani (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills), paced Marymount (3-9, 1-4 CAC) on the glass with eight rebounds.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, January 7 at 4:00 pm when St. Mary's welcomes Wesley College (4-8, 2-1 CAC) to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for another league tilt.
