BUENA VISTA, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team (11-2, 1-1 CAC) traveled to Southern Virginia University (0-13, 0-2 CAC) to take on the Knights on Friday (Oct. 18) evening in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Seahawks defeated the Knights in convincing fashion with a final score of 8-0. The eight goals the Seahawks tallied tonight were the highest total since St. Mary's College defeated Eastern Mennonite 10-1 on Sept. 26, 2015.

How It Happened
The Seahawks wasted little time to pull ahead on the scoreboard, capturing their first score of the night just 1:26 into the first quarter. Celina Kaufman found the back of the cage from an accurate pass from Gabrielle Corder for the first Seahawk goal of the evening. St. Mary's College extended their lead with three unanswered goals to end the first quarter. Meghan Ronan, Annika McCallum, and Kathleen Stevens netted goals during the three goal run.
The onslaught continued into the second quarter as the Seahawks blanked the Knights and recorded two goals of their own. Sophie Carlson notched a score in the 21st minute and Makayla Illemszky followed with a goal in the 24th minute. Next, the Seahawks tacked on one goal in the third quarter and one in the fourth to seal the dominant victory. Hannah Dietrich and Erika Schutt were responsible for the Seahawks' final two goals.
Inside the Box Score
Ronan, Stevens, and Dietrich led the Seahawks with three points each. Illemszky, McCallum, and Schutt recorded their first goals of the year on the evening. Kelbey Egerland started in cage and recorded her 11th victory of the season. In addition, Skylar Limpert played the second half in goal for the Seahawks and held the Knights scoreless.
The Seahawks dominated the stat sheet as they outshot the Knights 36-0 and held a 15-0 advantage in penalty corners.
