TOWSON, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team (1-0) blew past the Goucher College Gophers (0-1) Friday (Aug. 30) afternoon by a final score of 4-0. Celina Kaufman found the back of the cage twice, while Veronica Maring and Meghan Ronan tallied one score each.

How It Happened
After a scoreless first quarter, the Seahawks took control of the game with two scores in the second stanza. Kaufman recorded her first goal of the game in the 16th minute off a well-placed assist from Rachel Lansbury. Four minutes later, Maring fired a shot into the back of the cage for the two score advantage.
It seemed the third quarter would be a scoreless segment of the game until Ronan beat the opposing goalkeeper as time expired in the third quarter. Gabrielle Corder was credited with her second assist of the game off the third Seahawk score.
Leading by a comfortable 3-0 score, the Seahawks added another goal to cap off the 4-0 victory. Kaufman tallied her second goal of the night and Corder added her third assist on the score.
Inside the Box Score
As mentioned, Kaufman led the Seahawks with two goals for a total of four points. Corder followed with three points thanks to three assists. Maring and Ronan also contributed on the offensive end with one goal each.
St. Mary's College dominated on both ends of the field, besting Goucher in shots 9-0. In addition, the Seahawks tallied eight penalty corners compared to Goucher's two.
