Fredericksburg, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team wrapped up action at the University of Mary Washington Tournament Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0 to No. 8 Franklin & Marshall College for their first loss of the season.
Franklin & Marshall (4-0) owned a 3-0 halftime lead following 13 shots and seven penalty corners in the first half. The Diplomats added two more in the final 35 minutes, including converting a penalty stroke, for their fourth straight win. F&M finished the game with a 24-0 shot advantage as well as a 13-0 margin in corners.
Despite the score, senior captain Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) had a strong game for the Seahawks (2-1) as Bishop matched her career-best of 15 saves. Juniors Emily Smithers (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) and Shannon Litvin (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) helped out defensively with a defensive save each.
St. Mary's will look to get back in the win column on Thursday, September 11th as the Seahawks welcome Shenandoah University to Seahawk Stadium for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
