St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team announced their 2014 schedule Wednesday afternoon, which is highlighted by four opponents that finished ranked in the NFHCA Top-15 in the final national rankings.

This fall's schedule features 16 regular-season games and two of those contests has St. Mary's taking on a pair of NCAA semifinalists in Christopher Newport University and Salisbury University. Salisbury, the defending Capital Athletic Conference tournament champion, finished as the national runner-up after falling 1-0 to Bowdoin College in the NCAA title game.

Seventh-year head coach Katie Newkirk '06 and her squad opens up the new campaign at home as the Delaware Valley College Aggies visit Seahawk Stadium on Aug. 29.

The Seahawks then begin September on the road at the University of Mary Washington Tournament on Sept. 6-7. St. Mary's first opponent will be Roanoke College on the 6th before facing Franklin & Marshall College, who finished ranked 10th in last year's final poll, the next day.

St. Mary's returns home to take on Shenandoah University on Sept. 11 before beginning a four-game road trip, visiting Stevenson University (Sept. 13), Washington & Lee University (Sept. 20), Bridgewater (Va.) College (Sept. 21), and Randolph-Macon College (Sept. 23).

Eastern Mennonite University comes into town on Sept. 27 to begin a four-game home stand. October marks the start of conference play as the Seahawks host Frostburg State University on Oct. 4 during the annual Hawktoberfest festivities. St. Mary's continues CAC action by welcoming York College of Pennsylvania to Seahawk Stadium on Oct. 11.

The team takes a respite from league play on Oct. 12 to host Virginia Wesleyan College before traveling to three CAC opponents in five days – Wesley College (Oct. 16); Mary Washington (Oct. 18), who finished ranked 15th in the final rankings a year ago; and Christopher Newport (Oct. 21), who came in fourth in the final poll.

A week after CNU, the Seahawks wrap up the regular-season at home against Salisbury, who finished third in the nation, on Oct. 28. The CAC Tournament begins Nov. 2 with first round action followed by the semifinals on Nov. 5 and the championship being decided on Nov. 8.

The Seahawks' 2013 campaign to a close in the first round of the CAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament, falling to Wesley 2-1 in overtime. St. Mary's ended with a 10-6 (3-3 CAC) record, marking the first time since 2010 that the team had recorded a 10-win season and earning the fourth seed in the playoffs.
