St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior Brandon Eady (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) connected on a walk-off double to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team to a 5-4 extra inning win over McDaniel College in the first half of Saturday's non-conference doubleheader. In the second game, McDaniel responded with a 10-5 victory to split the twin bill.
In the bottom of the eighth with one out and down 4-2, senior captain Alex Lenovitz (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) doubled to left field to put the game-tying run on base. Junior C Jared Eaker (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) then singled and advanced to second on the throw while first-year Anthony Cangelosi (Olney, Md./Good Counsel), who came in to pinch run for Lenovitz, moved to third.
With the game-tying run on the third and the game-winning run on second, Eady stepped up to the plate and stroked his second hit of the first game to drive in two runs. The double was Eady's first of the season and gave him a team-best eight RBI.
Eady and senior Kenny Beyer (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) paced the Seahawks (4-3) at the plate with two hits while Beyer scored a run and notched an RBI.
Senior closer Sam Coe (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) improved to 2-0 on the season as Coe came in when the game was tied 3-3 and pitched a one-run, two-hit eighth inning in facing five batters.
It was all McDaniel (2-3) in the second game as the Green Terror jumped out to a 7-0 advantage after four innings, including a four-run fourth inning. McDaniel scored its seven runs on nine hits and two errors.
St. Mary's cut the deficit to four with three runs in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch and a double by first-year 2B Zach Rowe (Annapolis, Md./Calvert Hall). The Green Terror added three more runs in the sixth to rebuild their seven-run lead. The Seahawks attempted a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh but only pushed two runs across the plate before McDaniel got the forced out at second to end the game.
Sophomore Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led McDaniel in the win with a flawless 5-for-5 effort at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored while junior LHP David Pisauro (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits in 5.0 IP.
Eady collected two hits to lead the Seahawks while junior RHP A.J. Norby (Wayne, Pa./Shipley) suffered the loss, yielding six runs (four earned) on eight hits in 3.1 IP.
St. Mary's will be back in action tomorrow as the Seahawks welcome Gettysburg College to the Hawk's Nest for a non-conference game at 1:30 p.m.
