St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team strung together 12 hits but struggled to push runs across the plate in dropping a 16-6 non-conference decision Thursday afternoon to Randolph-Macon College.
First-year 2B Zach Rowe (Annapolis, Md./Calvert Hall) paced the Seahawks (3-2) at the plate as Rowe went 3-for-4 effort from his lead-off position while junior CF Brad Dioguardo (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) and Rowe each scored two runs.
On the mound, first-year LHP Nicholas Raimondo (Davidsonville, Md./South River) was saddled with the loss as he gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Raimondo walked three and struck out one Yellow Jacket.
Randolph-Macon (4-5) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Seahawks responded with four runs on four hits and two errors in their half of the inning. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more runs in the second to knot the game at 4-4. St. Mary's got one back in the bottom of the second as Rowe came home on an R-MC error. The third inning was scoreless for both sides.
The bats for Randolph-Macon heated up over the next five innings as the Yellow Jackets totaled 12 scores, including four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh. The Seahawks kept R-MC to one run in the seventh while St. Mary's added its sixth and final run in the bottom of the seventh as junior C Jared Eaker (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) connected on a two-out RBI double down the leftfield line.
Sophomore 2B Bryan Miltenberger (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and junior DH Tim Benjamin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) were the Yellow Jackets' top hitters as Miltenberger and Benjamin each collected three hits while Miltenberger drove in five runs.
Junior RHP Jake Bram (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) picked up the win as Bram threw 3.0 solid innings, allowing just one run on seven hits with one strikeout.
St. Mary's will be back in action this Saturday, March 1st as the Seahawks welcome McDaniel College to the Hawk's Nest for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
