Top News of the Week 

Men's basketball ready to end three-game slide
The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team returned to Capital Athletic Conference action last week with games at Frostburg State University (Jan. 4) and Wesley College (Jan. 8). First-year guard Matt Ayoub (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) paced the Seahawks in both games last week. Ayoub notched 10 points and a season-best three assists at Frostburg State before tallying a team-best 14 points on a season-high four three-point field goals at Wesley. St. Mary's is currently experiencing its longest skid of the season, having lost three straight. The Seahawks will face a tough challenge in halting their as they travel to No. 4 Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for the second half of a CAC doubleheader down in Newport News, Virginia. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. 

Women's basketball posts 1-1 week in CAC action
The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team put an end to their three-game slide with a CAC victory at Wesley College (Jan. 8). Senior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), the St. Mary's December Athlete of the Month, registered a pair of double-doubles in the Seahawks' 1-1 week. Haller collected a game-best 21 points and 11 rebounds at Frostburg State (Jan. 4) before posting 16 points and a career-high 17 boards in the win at Wesley. St. Mary's will travel to No. 8 Christopher Newport on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for a 5:30 p.m. league contest before hosting Southern Virginia University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, for Youth Appreciation Day

Swimming to host Mary Washington
The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's and women's swim teams will host its first dual meet of 2017 on Saturday, Jan. 14, welcoming the University of Mary Washington to the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center. St. Mary's has been idle since December 3, when the Seahawk men finished eighth at the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jacket Invitational and the women came in ninth. The dual is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
