#D3Week is here! Let’s Celebrate!

St. Mary's City, Md. – This week, the St. Mary's College of Maryland athletics program is celebrating the fifth annual NCAA Division III Week. Running April 4 to 10, Division III Week celebrates the unique Division III student-athlete experience, which offers a highly competitive athletics environment, a commitment to academic excellence and time to pursue other interests.

Division III Week is an opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution or conference to observe the impact of athletics on the campus and surrounding community, as student-athletes engage in activities focusing on academic accomplishment, athletic experience and leadership/community service/campus involvement.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, under the leadership of senior Greg Mainolfi (Lutherville, Md./Towson), has scheduled several events throughout the week to commemorate Division III Week.

Throughout the week, you'll have an opportunity to get to know some of our student-athletes as they describe #whyD3 in their own words – either through prose or video. One to two student-athletes will be featured each day this week at www.smcmathletics.com.

The week will culminate on Sunday, April 10 with the annual Special Olympics Field Day at 2:00 p.m. Our student-athletes work with athletes from Southern Maryland Special Olympics at various stations/activities such as lacrosse shooting, corn hole, badminton, etc. The field day will be held on the fields between Waring Commons and the Guam parking lot. For more information, please contact Nairem Moran or Crystal Gibson.

Also, on Sunday, student-athletes who have achieved a 3.0 or higher grade-point average for the 2015-16 academic year will be presented with their SMCM 3.0 Club t-shirts.

In addition, SAAC is sponsoring the first-ever Ultimate Osprey Tournament, a series of games designed to conjure the competitive drive within all student-athletes in a series of different sports. The Ultimate Osprey tournament is a double-elimination tournament pitting varsity sports teams against each other in a third neutral sport in which neither team has an advantage (i.e. Tennis vs. Cross Country in a game of volleyball).

The tournament begins Monday night with dodgeball and kickball competitions at the Rec Courts in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center. Check out the schedule below and come out to support our student-athletes as they display skills outside of their comfort zone.

Women's Soccer vs. Volleyball – 8:00 p.m.
