Taylor Leads St. Mary's Women's Cross Country to Highest Finish at NCAA Regional

Center Valley, Pa. – Sophomore Kara Taylor (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) posted the best finish by any Seahawk runner in program history at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships. Taylor led the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team to their highest-ever placement at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals as well. St. Mary's finished 28th in the 47-team field at the regional championships hosted by DeSales University Saturday morning.

St. Mary's Top 5 Finishers

  • In a field of 341 runners, Taylor came in 41st overall as she covered the 6K course in 24:12. Taylor's finish is the highest-ever by any Seahawk runner – male or female. The previous best finish was 70th by Dan Swain '13 at the 2012 NCAA Mideast Regionals.
  • Senior captain Marisa McCormick (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) finished her career by running a 25:53 for 144th-place overall.
  • Sophomore Lindsey Stevenson (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was the third Seahawk to cross the finish line by running a 26:37 and posting a 180th-place finish.
  • Sophomores Melody Raynaud (Ellicott, Md./Mt. Hebron) and Emily Lane (Glen Arm, Md./Loch Raven) rounded out the Top 5 for the Seahawks as Raynaud tallied a time of 28:04 (235th) and Lane clocked a 28:08 (240th).

Other Race Highlights

  • Johns Hopkins University's Felicia Koerner came in first overall with a time of 22:32 for second individual regional title. Koerner also won it in 2016 on the same course.
  • No. 1 Johns Hopkins picked up its 11th straight regional championship.
  • As the top-two finishers, Johns Hopkins and No. 6 Dickinson College earned automatic bids to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships on November 17.
