Seahawk Women's Cross Country Finish Sixth at Naval Academy

Annapolis, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team placed sixth in an eight-team field at the Salty Dog Invitational Saturday morning. The 6K race was hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and featured five Division I programs.

The Basics:

  • Place – 6th out of 8 (199 points)
  • Location – United States Naval Academy – Annapolis, Md.

St. Mary's Top 5 Finishers

  • St. Mary's bested McDaniel College and Division II Bowie State University.
  • First-year Kara Taylor (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) continued her impressive start to her career by once again leading the Seahawks, finishing 58th with a time of 26:00.59.
  • Junior captain Marisa McCormick (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) followed Taylor by placing 69th in 27:25.34.
  • Senior captain Halcyon Ruskin (Kensington Md./Albert Einstein) swapped positions with McCormick from the prior week and came in third for the Seahawks to take 70th with a time of 27:45.24.
  • Sophomores Lindsey Power (Glen Arm, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Sarah Jeffrey (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) rounded out the Top 5 finishers for St. Mary's. Power ran a 28:41.45 for 74th place while Jeffrey came in 77th in 29:30.12.

Other Top Finishers

  • Navy won the team title but University of Maryland's Emily Bracher captured the individual title in 22:28.45 to lead the Terps to second.
  • American University finished third as Adriana Hooks came in seventh.

Up Next for the Seahawks

  • The Seahawks will compete at the Osprey Open, which is hosted by Stockton University in Galloway, N.J., next Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 a.m.
