St. Mary's Women's Cross Country Concludes 2015 Season at NCAA Regionals

Newville, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team concluded their season Saturday morning at the 2015 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson College. The 6K course was set up at Big Spring High School.

The Seahawks came in 45th place in the 50-team field. Johns Hopkins University claimed the top team honor for the eighth year in a row with a score of 33 as the Blue Jays captured the Top 3 individual spots. JHU had six of its seven finishers place in the Top 25. JHU's senior Sophia Meehan took the individual title for the second consecutive season.

St. Mary's first-year Halcyon Ruskin (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) paced the Seahawks in her first NCAA regional, taking 235th (221st – adjusted) in a field of 365 runners. Ruskin finished the course with a time of 26:50.8.

Following Ruskin was Seahawk sophomore Lydia Marzot (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle). Marzot placed 257th (241st – adjusted) with a time of 27:16.5. Seconds after Marzot, senior captain Megan Gerdes (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) came in 258th (242nd – adjusted) with a time of 27:18.1.

Junior captain Grace Humphries (Lutherville, Md./Mercy) took the 307th (284th – adjusted) spot with a time of 28:35.5 and came in as the fourth runner for St. Mary's. Rounding out the scoring as the fifth finisher for the Seahawks was senior captain Lilly Gaehde (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) who crossed the finish line in 28:43.2 for the 314th spot (291st – adjusted).

Pushing the Seahawks' scorers were first-years Kori Taber (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) and Tara Vizzi (Bel Air, Md./Kenwood). Taber tallied a time of 30:09.1 for a 339th-place finish (312th – adjusted) while Vizzi came in 348th (321st – adjusted) with a time of 31:22.9.

The NCAA Division III Mideast Regional marked the final meet for the Seahawks in 2015, completing a solid season. A pair of third-place finishes at the 6th Annual Coach Achtzehn Classic and the Hood College Invitational highlighted St. Mary's season.
