York, Pa. – First-year Halcyon Ruskin (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) took the lead for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team and placed eighth on a rainy Saturday morning at the Sixth Annual Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York College of Pennsylvania at John Rudy County Park. Ruskin helped her team to an overall third-place finish.
The 6K course took Ruskin 26:07.6 to complete, putting her ahead of 43 out of 50 competitors. Following Ruskin's lead was senior Megan Gerdes (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) who came in 14th place (12th in team scoring) with a time of 26:52.1. Soon after Gerdes, sophomore Lydia Marzot (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) came in for 15th place (13th in scoring) with a time of 26:55.0.
First-year Marisa McCormick (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) and senior captain Lilly Gaehde (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) rounded out the team scoring for St. Mary's. McCormick finished 26th overall (22nd in scoring) with a time of 29:26.7 while Gaehde placed 30th (25th in scoring) in 29:44.6.
The Seahawks took third place in a five-team field. St. Mary's had a team completion time of 2:19:05.78 and a score of 79 points. The York alumni came in second-place following first-place York (Pa.). The host finished with a team time of 2:09:51.66. The Spartans were able to seize the first five places which set them apart in the competition. York's Alicia Dillman claimed the top individual honor with a time of 25:58.0.
The Seahawks will be looking to finish strong when they host the Second Annual Seahawks Invitational on Saturday, September 19 at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum in St. Leonard, Maryland.
