Seahawk Women's Cross Country Has Strong Showing at CAC Championships
Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team missed notching their second consecutive fifth-place finish at the Capital Athletic Conference championships by one point as the Seahawks finished sixth at this year's championship meet hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday.
Sophomore Katie Phipps (Severna Park, Md./Chesapeake) completed the 6,000-meter course in 24:13 for a 19th-place finish to be the Seahawks' top finisher, missing all-conference honors by four places and 20 seconds.
Salisbury captured its third straight CAC title as five of the top 10 championship meet finishers were Sea Gulls. York (Pa.) College's Mandy Parshall, the 2010 CAC Women's Runner of the Year, claimed the individual title in 22:35 while Marymount (Va.) University's Jessica Daley, the 2010 CAC Women's Rookie of the Year, finished second in 22:43.
Junior captain Kathleen Tatem (Kensington, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was the team's second finisher with a 41st-place finish in 25:52 followed two seconds later by first-year Keighly Bradbrook (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) in 43rd.
Sophomore Margaret Lillie (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) also notched points for the Seahawks with her 45th-place finish in 26:17 while first-year Ginger Williams (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) rounded out the top 5 scorers with a 49th-place finish in 27:09.
St. Mary's will be wrapping up the 2010 season at the NCAA Mideast Regionals hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania next Saturday, November 13.
