Hlavinka Picks Up Second Straight Volleyball All-Conference Award
York, Pa. – Senior Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) was St. Mary's College of Maryland's lone representative on the 2011 All-Capital Athletic Conference volleyball teams released Thursday afternoon by conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes.
This is the second consecutive all-conference honor for Hlavinka but first time on the top team. The 6-0 middle blocker led the team with a league second-best .278 hitting percentage. She also paced the team in kills with a CAC fifth-best 263 kills. Hlavinka was tops on the team with 2.58 kills per game as well as 74 total blocks (32 solos, 42 assists) for a 0.73 average. She also chipped in 55 digs and 11 service aces.
Hlavinka wrapped up her outstanding four-year career with 1,048 points; 863 kills; 228 total blocks, and 161 digs along with 29 service aces and 29 assists.
St. Mary's ends the 2011 campaign with a 10-18 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in conference action. The Seahawks won five of their last eight games, including a four-match win streak.
