Senior Gena Hlavinka was St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s lone representative on the 2011 All-Capital Athletic Conference volleyball teams released Thursday afternoon by conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes.

St. Mary's Volleyball Falls in Four in CAC Tournament First Round
The 2011 season for the St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team came to a close Tuesday night as the fifth-seeded Seahawks suffered a 3-1 setback to fourth-seeded University of Mary Washington in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament. The set scores were 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 14-25.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team ended their Seventh Annual Seahawk Invitational by splitting their two matches Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks posted a 3-0 shutout win over Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action before dropping a 3-0 decision to Lynchburg College.

Senior middle blocker Gena Hlavinka led three Seahawks with double-digit kills Wednesday night as the St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team notched a crucial 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Marymount (Va.) University while raising over $3,000 for the Side-Out Foundation on Dig Pink Night.

Blanc Nabs First Career Player of the Week Honor
York, Pa. – Junior outside hitter Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) earned her first career Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award for the week ending October 2 as announced Monday afternoon by league commissioner, Tom Byrnes. Blanc is the first Seahawk to pick up the weekly honor since October 26, 2009 when Katie Obal ’11 was the last to receive it.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team used a balance attack to record third shutout victory of the season and hand York College of Pennsylvania its second consecutive setback as the Seahawks left York’s Charles Wolf Gym with a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference victory, recording scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team split their final two matches at the Days Inn Blue Jay Classic on Saturday, taking a five-set decision from host Elizabethtown College before falling 3-0 to Haverford College. The Seahawks finished tied for third with Elizabethtown as both teams notched a 1-2 tournament record.

The Seahawks swept the host team before falling in three to Neumann University.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of undefeated Johns Hopkins University Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Seahawks (1-3) struggled offensively in the first two sets, managing only 12 total kills as JHU (5-0) claimed the first set, 25-11, and the second, 25-19.
