Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – York College of Pennsylvania avenged its regular-season 3-0 loss to the St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team with a sweep of its own Tuesday night as the fifth-seeded Spartans swept fourth-seeded St. Mary's in Capital Athletic Conference first round action.

York (27-5) will now face top-seeded Frostburg State University in a CAC semifinal match-up on Thursday night.  St. Mary's (22-10) wrapped up the 2010 campaign with its fourth 20+ win season in head coach Morris Davis' seven year tenure.

The Seahawks started the match off right with four straight aces by senior setter Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and built that momentum to a 12-6 advantage in the first set.  York responded with a 21-13 run to close out the first set and notch a 27-25 victory.

York jumped out to an 11-4 advantage and never trailed the rest of the way but the Seahawks pulled within one twice (13-14 and 14-15) before the Spartans used a 7-0 run to own a 22-14 lead.  St. Mary's used a 7-2 run of its own to close the gap to 24-21.  Senior outside hitter Alysse Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern) notched the final point for the Spartans for a 25-21 set win.

After five early draws in the third set, York rushed out a 22-11 margin with a 16-5 run and finished off the match with a 25-14 triumph.

First-year Michelle Klima (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) paced the Seahawks with nine kills and four blocks while senior outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) added seven kills and a team-best 14 digs in her last collegiate match.

In her final match as a Seahawk, Obal finished with 14 assists, eight digs, and five service aces.  Junior middle blocker Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) helped offensively with six kills for a .400 hitting percentage and five blocks.

First-year outside hitter Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) also tallied double-digit digs with 11.
