St. Mary's Volleyball Sweeps Division II UDC
Washington, D.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team rebounded from Thursday night's five-set loss with a sweep of Division II University of District of Columbia in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (16-6) breezed through the first set, notching a 25-13 victory, before battling UDC for a 25-20 triumph in the second set. St. Mary's wrapped up the match with a convincing 25-11 win in the final set.
Junior middle blocker Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) led a balanced attack with a match-high nine kills and two blocks while first-years Michelle Klima (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Trish Kallis (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) each tallied five kills. Kallis added five blocks as well.
Seniors Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) commanded the defense with six digs each while Obal dished out 19 assists.
St. Mary's will return to action next Thursday, October 21 when they travel to Dover, Del. to face Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action at 7:00 pm.
