St. Mary's Swept at Franklin & Marshall

Lancaster, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team suffered only their second 3-0 loss of the season, falling in straight sets to Franklin & Marshall College Friday night.

Franklin & Marshall (5-4) jumped out in front against the Seahawks (4-4), capturing the first set 25-18.  St. Mary's seemed to turn the tide in the second, leading 24-19 at one point before the Diplomats overcame several match points to take the second, 30-28.  The Seahawks remained close in the third set but F&M was able to pull out a 25-23 victory for the match win.

Outside hitters Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Shannon Fitzpatrick (Germantown, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) paced the Seahawks in the match with seven kills apiece while Kodan helped out defensively with nine digs.

First-year middle blocker Trish Kallis (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) posted six total blocks on four solos and two assists while adding three kills and three service aces.

The Seahawks will be back in action tomorrow at a tri-match at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.  St. Mary's will take on Goucher College at noon before squaring off against the host at 2:00 pm.
