Seahawks Blank Wesley in CAC Volleyball Action
St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team used a balanced attack in notching its third consecutive victory as the Seahawks picked up a 3-0 sweep of Wesley College Thursday night.
Senior middle blocker Jen Lamar (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) paced the Seahawks (14-9, 3-3 CAC) in the win with game-highs of nine kills and four block solos.
St. Mary's dominated all three sets, posting set scores of 25-12, 25-11, and 25-13. The Seahawk defense held Wesley (8-20, 1-5 CAC) to a negative .028 hitting percentage, while the offense was on point with a season-high .357 attack rating.
Outside hitters Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Jenn Rindone (Crofton, Md./Spalding) each tallied six kills in contributing to the SMCM offense. Kodan added five digs as well.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added a game-high seven digs and four kills while junior setter Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) tallied 18 assists, two kills and one dig.
For Wesley, senior middle hitter Nettie Choice (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) led her squad with five kills, while senior outside hitter Lilia Brekke (Prescott, Ariz./Caesar Rodney [Del.]) notched six digs and four kills.
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday, October 24 as St. Mary's hosts a quad match with Frostburg State University, Neumann College and Stevenson University. The Seahawks will first face Stevenson in league action at 10:00 am followed by non-conference match-ups with Frostburg State at noon and Neumann at 3:00 pm. Prior to the start of the final match of the day, St. Mary's will recognize its four seniors.
