Seahawks Sweep Hood
Frederick, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday night as the Seahawks (10-1, 2-0 CAC) easily handled Hood College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-7), in Capital Athletic Conference action.
Senior middle blocker Becca Tursell (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) led St. Mary's with seven kills and a .429 attack percentage, while junior middle blocker Jen Lamar (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) added five.
Sophomore outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) notched five of her eight points in the match on five service aces, while senior setter Megan Graydon (West Friendship, Md./Glenelg) served up four aces.
Lamar and freshman outside hitter Shannon Fitzpatrick (Germantown, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) each picked up four block assists, while sophomore outside hitter Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) had six digs and three kills.
Graydon and junior setter Jenn Feldmann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) combined for 23 assists.
Sophomore Chelsea Weaver (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) and senior outside hitter Jamie Gardner (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) each tallied four kills for the Blazers (0-8, 0-2 CAC).
St. Mary's will be back in action tomorrow at a non-conference tri-match with Gettysburg College and Bryn Mawr College at Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. The Seahawks will take on Bryn Mawr first at 1:00 followed by a match-up with Gettysburg at 3:00.
