Tursell Selected as St. Mary’s October Athlete-of-the-Month
Becca Tursell (Ellicott City, Md.) of the volleyball team was selected by the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation as the October Athlete-of-the-Month. Tursell is a 5-10, junior middle blocker who helped the Seahawk volleyball team to a 12-5 overall record in October, including a 3-2 mark in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action.

Fourth-year head coach Morris Davis was selected by his peers as the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Volleyball Coach-of-the-Year as announced by CAC officials Monday evening after leading the St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball squad to their first-ever appearance in the CAC Championship.

The hopes of bringing the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Volleyball Championship trophy to St. Mary’s College of Maryland were dashed Saturday night when the tournament’s second-seed, Salisbury University, handed fourth-seeded St. Mary’s a 3-1 (30-26, 19-30, 24-30, 18-30) setback in the CAC title match.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team cruised through the second day of competition of their own Third Annual Seahawk Invitational, finishing with a 4-0 overall mark and claiming the invitational title on Saturday afternoon.

St. Mary’s Emerges 2-0 after Day One of the Seahawk Invitational
In the opening rounds of the Third Annual Seahawk Volleyball Invitational, St. Mary’s College of Maryland posted a 2-0 record with 3-0 sweeps of Roanoke College and Baruch College. The Seahawks improved to 26-6 with tonight’s two victories.

St. Mary’s Drops Second CAC Match to York
The York (Pa.) College volleyball team picked up their sixth Capital Athletic Conference win of the season on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 victory over the visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) College Seahawks, 30-24, 23-30, 36-34, 30-27. The Spartans improve to 28-5 on the year with a 6-2 CAC record. St. Mary’s falls to 24-6 and 6-2 in conference play.

Seahawks Split at Franklin & Marshall Tri-Match
The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team split their two matches at Franklin & Marshall College’s tri-match Saturday. The Seahawks are now 24-5 on the season. St. Mary’s will return to action on Tuesday, October 23 when the Hawks travel to York, Pennsylvania for their final regular-season Capital Athletic Conference match at York (Pa.) College. The match is scheduled for 7:00.

Salisbury Hands Seahawks Second Straight Loss, First CAC Defeat
The Salisbury University volleyball team had been looking forward to their Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) first-place showdown with St. Mary's College of Maryland for weeks. On Tuesday night, the Sea Gulls handed St. Mary’s a 3-1 setback before an energized crowd of 543 at the Maggs Center. The win now places the Gulls in sole possession of first place in the CAC.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team dominated the quad match that the Seahawks hosted Saturday as SMCM swept all three of their opponents en route to improving to 18-2 on the season. St. Mary’s served up a total of 45 aces over three matches, while setters Jenn Feldmann and Megan Graydon combined for 93 assists.
