Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team rolled into Hilton Head Island for their first Capital Athletic Conference match of the season. The Seahawks took down Frostburg State University, 8-1, on Tuesday in their first match at the PTR Spring TennisFest.
The Seahawks (3-3), riding a two-match win streak into today's action, came out of the gates hot, going a perfect 3-for-3 in doubles matches. Senior Anna Passaniti (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and sophomore Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) locked up the No. 1 doubles match, 8-5, against seniors Kayla Kirk (Westernport, Md./Mountain Ridge) and Kaitlin Lemmert (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge) in the closest of the doubles matches.
Moving into singles play, it was again the Seahawks that were dominant. Barall was again dominant at the No. 1 position, but this time in singles, posting a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kirk. The only point coming for the Frostburg State Bobcats was from Lemmert in the No. 2 singles match, who picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Passaniti.
The Seahawks will play two tomorrow, Wednesday, March 16 as St. Mary's takes on Division II Shepherd University at 8:30 a.m. and then faces Ramapo College of New Jersey at 3:00 p.m.
