St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team rallied after last week's loss to Washington College and won big against the McDaniel College Green Terror, 9-0.
The Seahawks (2-3) came out of the gates hot, starting with the doubles matches. Senior Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and sophomore Chelsea English (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) tallied the most dominant win of doubles action, winning 8-0 at No. 3 doubles against first-year Jessica Measimer (East Hampton, Conn./East Hampton) and sophomore Lindsay Russell (Leonia, N.J./Leonia).
Junior Marissa Romanek (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) and sophomore Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) notched their second straight victory with a decisive 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over juniors Leesa Malczewski (Denton, Md./Chesapeake) and Winsome Schauer (Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School).
Moving into the singles matches, the Seahawks kept it rolling, going a perfect 6-for-6. From top to bottom, it was St. Mary's day in very dominating fashion. Barall led the way with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Schauer at No. 1 singles to improve to 5-2 (4-1 dual mark) on the season.
Senior Liza Moore (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) won her second straight match as Moore shutout Measimer, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
St. Mary's will take to the road for its next match as the Seahawks travel to Bel Air, Maryland on Sunday, March 13 to face Harford Community College in an exhibition match at 1:00 p.m.
