Harrisburg, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team posted their second consecutive shutout victory as the Seahawks tallied a 9-0 win over future Capital Athletic Conference member, Penn State Harrisburg, Saturday afternoon.
With this afternoon's win, St. Mary's wraps up its fall portion of the 2012-13 schedule. The Seahawks (3-3) will resume action in March 2013 when they welcome Bridgewater (Va.) College to the Somerset Tennis Complex on the 2nd.
Sophomores Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over sophomore Gabrielle LeGendre (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) and senior Theodora Avramidis (Glenwood, N.J.).
Sophomore Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) and first-year Emily Rost (Germantown, Md.) continued their untarnished run through the schedule, improving to 5-0 with an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles over juniors Alejandra Portillo (Palmyra, Pa.) and Tricia Stone (Elizabethtown, Pa.).
At third flight doubles, senior Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and first-year Anna Passaniti (White Hall, Md./Hereford) picked up an 8-2 triumph over sophomores Casey Stetler (Lititz, Pa.) and Amanda Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) to move to 4-1 on the season.
Ramsey notched a 6-0, 6-3 win over LeGendre at No. 1 singles while L. Rost defeated Avramidis 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Stumpfig is now 4-2 on the year after a double-bagel victory over Portillo at No. 3 singles followed by E. Rost garnering a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Stetler at No. 4 singles.
Passaniti and first-year Kayla Baier (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Prep) did not drop a single game in either of their matches to seal the match win. Baier owns the only undefeated record on the St. Mary's team with a 2-0 mark at No. 6 singles.
