Stumpfig, Rost Selected to All-Conference Women's Tennis Teams
York, Pa. – Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) and Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) represented St. Mary's College of Maryland on the 2012 All-Capital Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Teams as announced by conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Tuesday afternoon.
Stumpfig earned a spot on the second team at No. 2 singles after posting a team-best 18 wins as a rookie, setting a school single-season record for singles wins and besting the old mark of 15 established in 2010 by senior Kathleen Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and junior Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial). The 5-7 first-year notched a seven-match win streak in singles action from October 8 through March 10. She also garnered conference player of the week honors on March 6.
Rost also picked up a spot on the second team at No. 5 singles. She finished third on the team with 12 wins, including a 6-1 mark at the fifth flight. The 5-3 first-year was successful as well in doubles action with an 11-5 record, including an 8-3 mark at No. 2 doubles.
The Seahawks (15-7, 5-2 CAC) recorded their third 10-win season in four years to set a school record for wins in a season with 15, breaking the old mark of 12 set by the 2009 squad. St. Mary's entered this year's league tournament as the third seed and advanced to the CAC semifinals for the fifth season in a row.
