Seahawk Women's Tennis Falls to Salisbury on Senior Day
St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision to Salisbury University, who ranks 16th in the Atlantic South region, Friday evening as the Seahawks recognized their four seniors prior to the start of the match.
Seniors Jackie Brady (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin), Allie Crawford (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Sarah Minkoff (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville), and Kathleen Ramsey (Owings, Md./Northern) were all honored before the start of the match for their years of service to the Seahawk women's tennis program.
Junior Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) and first-year player Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) suffered their first loss of the season, giving Salisbury's junior Victoria Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Allison Lutz a run for their money as St. Mary's fell 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
Minkoff (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) won the most sets for the Seahawks in singles action as she succumbed to a 6-3, 6-4 decision to sophomore Charlotte Urian (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) at sixth flight.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Sunday, April 15 as the Seahawks welcome Stevenson University and No. 24 University of Mary Washington to the Somerset Tennis Complex for league matches at 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm, respectively. Sunday's matches will serve as a benefit for breast cancer awareness.
