St. Mary’s Falls to Catholic

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the young 2009-10 campaign as Catholic University walked away with a 7-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) notched the Seahawks (2-1) only singles victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over freshman Katie Johnson (West Chester, Pa.) at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Jackie Brady (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and freshman Beth Handy (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) joined forces at No. 3 doubles to pick up St. Mary's only doubles win - a gut-wrenching 9-8 (7-3) victory over Johnson and her partner, Kasia Zak.

St. Mary's will return to action tomorrow as the Seahawks travel to Abington, Pa. to take on Penn State Abington at 1:00 pm.
