Seahawk Women's Swimming Falls to Washington College

St. Mary's City, Md. – Five Seahawks won individual events as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team faced Washington College in non-conference action Friday night. St. Mary's (2-3) dropped a 111-94 decision to the Shorewomen (2-4).

How It Happened

  • Sophomore Brenna Litynski (Hollywood, Md./Home-schooled) captured the 200 freestyle in 1:57.99 while posting a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:20.91.
  • Junior Carolyn Sutton (Laurel, Md./Laurel) won the 50 freestyle in 25.98 while taking second in the 100 freestyle in 57.52.
  • Sutton also led off the second-place 400 freestyle relay, posting a 3:51.68 with junior Holly Smith (Calne, England/Skyline [Wash.]), senior captain Samantha Schoenecker (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson), and sophomore Anna LaPoint (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).
  • LaPoint claimed a first-place finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:54.52 while notching a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 11:15.81.
  • First-year Rileigh Krell (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.34.
  • Senior captain Hailley Baughman (Lineboro, Md./Manchester Valley) recorded a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.02 while first-year Bailey Edgren (Canton, Conn./Canton) took second in 2:35.96.
  • The foursome of junior Angela Ross (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall), Edgren, Smith, and Schoenecker started the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay in 4:22.00.
  • Junior Becca Sonnenberg (Derwood, Md./Magruder) paced St. Mary's in the 200 butterfly in 2:28.99 while Ross came in third in 2:31.66.
  • Baughman added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 27.33 while Edgren was third in the 400 individual medley (5:03.50) and Smith posted a third-place finish as well in the 100 freestyle in 58.65.
